“I must say that the field school was an incredible experience. We began the trip by exploring the streets of Rome--something which I have been looking forward to for quite a while. However, it was only once we left Rome that we got to experience something which I believe was profoundly unique. The month we spent digging on a hillside, behind a small church provided a hands on education to the archeological process. Dr. Stevens warned me before I committed that we would likely not spend much time digging Roman layers (which is what I had spent most my time at Mizzou studying). While we did spend most of our time uncovering chalcolithic remains I could not have been happier with my choice. The small town environment in which the school was located afforded us the experience of a noticeably less tourist centric part of Italy. While at the field school I was fortunate enough to do everything from going to the beach to receiving cooking lessons from the mother of our Italian assistant program director. The faculty which led this trip on behalf of the University of Rochester were knowledgeable, personable and encouraging. I would not hesitate to take a History or Art and Archeology class with them. Above all, Dr. Stevens represented the University of Missouri in a way which can make alumni and students proud. The information which I became so familiar with during his classes as an undergrad were brought to life, not only by seeing monuments in person, but also by analyzing the archeological record in the field with Dr. Stevens. I have just completed the first week of my JD; however, this field school was an experience which I will fondly remember for the rest of my life.”
