Shannon is currently a Master’s student at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.  She is getting her degree in Museum Studies, focusing on Theory and Practice. Shannon is from St. Louis and hopes to get a job in St. Louis or on the east coast upon graduation.

Along with Shannon’s love of dogs is her love of history.  “My favorite museum that I have been to while over in the UK is the Surgeons Hall museum in Edinburgh. It is filled with body parts that have been removed, tumors, old dissection diagrams, and even preserved dissected bodies. It is creepy, but I find it fascinating and would love to work in a collection like that one day.”

As a part of her graduate program requirements, Shannon is currently working at a local industrial museum. “I am researching objects and their history to create an online story. I get to find objects in the collection, prepare them for digitization, edit the photos, and create a dialogue to share its history.”

As an undergraduate at MU, “I emphasized in Public History, which was a new program created when I was in my third year at Mizzou. Before I started on that track, I was a Finance major and I knew I was in that field because I did not know what I wanted to do. I emailed a history professor about how I love history and museums. She told me about the new Public History track and I signed right up. I could immediately see myself working behind the scenes at a museum. I loved getting to do an internship at the Boone County Historical Society.  It was my first real hands-on experience with museums and I loved it.  At the museum I got to help take about 300 historic photographs of Columbia out of their old frames, preserve them, pick out the best to be digitized, and display them for a private viewing. I had so much fun learning about the town and the university.  That internship also enforced my love of museums and proved to me I was on the right path.”
